Major Michael A. Ryan

ANG Services Association President-Elect

Major Ryan was born 27 February 1957 in Rantoul, IL. He attended grammar, junior high, and high school in Martinsburg, WV and graduated June 1975. He attended Angelo State University, San Angelo, TX. Graduating in 1979 with a Bachelor of Business Administration.

He entered military service in November 1979 for a period of five years and four months with the United States Air Force. He attended Security Police Officers School at Lackland AFB, TX. He also attended Infantry Officer Basic Course at Ft Benning, GA. He was a shift commander for 2 years. He became a Defense Force Commander with the Ground Launch Cruise Missile System in 1981.

After five plus years of active duty with the United States Air Force, Major Ryan was hired as a police officer with the Tucson Police Department. During his tenure with the Tucson Police Department he served in numerous assignments. He was a Uniform Patrol Officer, member of the Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Squad and is currently a member of the Traffic Division as a Solo Motor Officer. He is working as a Night Motor.

In February 1992 he joined the 162 FG, Arizona Air National Guard located in Tucson as Chief of Security Police. In 1997 he attended Squadron Officer School in residence at Maxwell AFB, Al. In 1998 he was assigned to the Services Flight as the Mortuary Affairs Officer. Once assigned to Services he attended Services Initial Skills Management, Mortuary Affairs, and Services Leadership courses at Wright Patterson AFB, OH. In May 2003 he attended the Intermediate Leadership Seminar at McGhee-Tyson ANG, TN.

Major Ryan is currently enrolled in Air Command and Staff. Some of the awards that he has received include; the Expert Infantryman Badge, Bronze Star with Valor, Air Force Commendation Medal with device, Air Force Achievement Medal with two devices, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with device, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, and Small Arms Expert Ribbon with device. He is the Commander of the 162 FW/SVF.
